The Triton Series' return to London after a four-year hiatus has finished its run, with not one, but two, prominent pros becoming double event winners in the series' final days. Jason Koon and Phil Ivey both picked up more hardware as the Triton Super High Roller Festival ended its 16-event, 13-day run, with the two famed pros capturing the final two events on the Triton London slate.
Koon had already made his mark at London's JW Marriott Grosvenor House with a win in Triton London's Event #6, $60,000 NLH 7-Handed, in the festival's first week. The win was a record eighth Triton victory for Koon, but it took him little time to claim Triton triumph number nine. That happened on Thursday in the $60,000 Short-Deck main event.
Koon topped a smallish but elite field in the short-deck main, where 27 players' initial buy-ins, plus 19 re-entries, built a $2.76 million prize pool. Koon claimed an $828,000 payday and his fifth Triton title of 2023. His blistering run at recent Triton stops included a one-outer at the final table against Tan Xuan. Koon flopped a set of nines, Xuan flopped a set of kings, the chips went in, and Xuan, the leader at the time, had Koon easily covered.
Then the case nine appeared on the river, and Koon doubled up and went on to post the win.
Ivey posts two wins in last five events
Phil Ivey's done well in Triton series, too, particularly in short-deck events, and one of Ivey's wins came in that format as well. First, though, he took down the $60,000 No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed Turbo title in a single-day event last Sunday. Ivey's win over a 61-entry field was worth $1.007 million. The victory was Ivey's fourth career Triton triumph but his first in a non-short-deck tourney.
Then on Friday, after Koon had won the short-deck main the day before, Ivey again demonstrated his own dominance in the format by winning the $25,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em title. This final event on the Triton London slate drew another small but elite assemblage, as Ivey topped a 33-entry field to add another $280,500 to his London winnings.
Four of Ivey's five Triton wins have come in either 2022 or 2023, and four of the five have been in short-deck events.
