A new assemblage of women's poker events, called the Women in Poker Festival, will debut in December in Las Vegas. The festival includes a new women's poker series, a satellite to a separate major poker tournament, and other events while also encompassing the 2022 Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WiPHoF) enshrinement festivities.
The Women in Poker Festival begins with the International Women’s Poker Championship (IWPC) on December 13, 2022, which runs for three days, ending on December 15. The IWPC, which will be held at Resorts World Las Vegas, includes a $360-entry, three-day Women in Poker main event, several smaller events, plus satellite sit-'n-gos.
Besides the WIP main event, which begins at noon on December 13, there are four other tournaments already scheduled as part of the Women in Poker festival:
- Tuesday, Dec. 13, 6 pm - WIP $240 OE (Omaha 8/Stud 8)
- Wednesday, Dec. 14, 6 pm - WIP $240 Omaha
- Thursday, Dec. 15, 6 pm - WIP $180 No-Limit Hold'em
- Saturday, Dec. 17, 2 pm - WiPHoF Celebration $180 NLHE Mystery Bounty
The Saturday WiPHOF Celebration mystery bounty tourney follows the 2022 WiPHOF celebration brunch, which will take place at 10 am that same day, presumably (but not yet announced definitively) as also being at Resorts World Las Vegas.
Friday includes satellites to Wynn's WPT Ladies Championship
The Friday gap in the Women in Poker Festival's slate of events is explained by that day, December 16, being the starting day of the new WPT Women's Championship at the Wynn. In an unusual twist, the Women in Poker Festival will offer, at Resorts World, two satellites on Thursday that will award seats into the Wynn WPT ladies event. Those satellites begin at 11 am and 5 pm.
Friday at the Women in Poker Festival also includes a ladies meet-up cash game, at 5 pm at Resorts World, for those women either not participating in the WPT Ladies Championship or for those players unlucky enough to have been eliminated on Day 1.
The Women in Poker Festival is part of an attempt to create a second ladies-poker gathering in Las Vegas that spans several days and that can serve to attract women players from other locations as well. The festival, which is affiliated with Vegas-based ladies-poker entities including WiPHoF and the Women's Poker Association (WPA), was envisioned several years ago, but was delayed from debuting in 2020 or 2021 due to pandemic concerns. Should the festival prove successful, it would establish itself as a counterpoint to the traditional mid-June Ladies Poker Week in Las Vegas that includes the WSOP's Ladies Championship.
WIP online site offers WiPHoF attendance packages
With its close linking to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame, it's natural that the WIP Festival's online home now includes other WiPHoF items as well. The Women in Poker site now offers tickets to attend the December 17 WiPHoF celebration brunch, as part of a VIP package priced at $99 and including several collectible items in addition to the brunch.
Smaller WIP-supporting packages are available as well for those unable to attend the WiPHoF brunch. A $45 Premium package includes a t-shirt, card protector, patch, and lanyard, while a $20 Power package skips the t-shirt but includes the other items.
