Prime Social poker club hints at its next big tournament series
The Houston live tournament poker scene continues to thrive, and one of the biggest guaranteed prize pools in Texas history will play out at Prime Social this summer.
Both the poker club and tournament director Justin Hammer have announced intentions to run a $1 million guaranteed Main Event sometime in June. That tournament would presumably play out as the centerpiece of the Prime Summer Series, with the club’s social media hinting at that name.
The announcements haven’t included a series schedule as of yet, but it appears that one of Houston’s biggest series to date will emanate from Prime Social in June:
“Records were made to be broken,” reads an announcement that appeared on Facebook and Twitter. “$1 Million Guaranteed Main Event coming this June. #PrimeSummerSeries.”
Surging Houston tournament scene continues to climb
The “records” referred to in the social media announcement came forth from Prime Social’s last big poker series. The Prime Signature Series ran February 11-28 and offered an $1,100 buy-in Main Event with a $500,000 guarantee.
That Main Event currently stands as the largest guaranteed prize pool tournament in Texas poker history. Massive player interest made it an overwhelming success, leaving that $500,000 in promised prize money as a fraction of the actual final pool.
With 1,079 total entries, the Prime Signature Series final prize pool ended up at $1,079,000. Eventual winner Tim Gilliam took home a $160,390 payday.
The Main Event featured four Day 1 flights, with surviving players from those days coming back as a combined field and playing down to a champion. With that structure in place, the 1,079 entries narrowed down to 76 players before the start of Day 2.
The upcoming $1 million guaranteed Main Event would presumably use a similar structure. Attendance for the Prime Summer Series could exceed the numbers from the Prime Signature Series, as record freezing temperatures across Texas forced the cancellation of a few events in the February series.
Poker.org will provide updates on the Prime Summer Schedule when the club releases those details. For now, however, the hype is on for Houston’s next big tournament series:
