BetMGM and PartyPoker are joining forces this New Year's holiday to bring a special series of online events to players in the three U.S. states where BetMGM/Partypoker U.S. operates -- Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan. Dubbed the New Year Knockout Weekend, it's six events spread over five days, to help welcome these relative newcomers to regulated U.S. online poker to the start of 2022.
There's a catch, naturally. Because the three states have yet to ink player-pooling compacts with each other, BetMGM will be hosting three separate New Year Knockout Weekend series, one each for the Partypoker U.S. Network's three current states. Each of the three series begins on December 29, 2021 and runs through January 2, 2022.
Each of the three series features the same exact schedule of events, dates, times, and buy-ins. All six events in each state's series are progressive knockout (PKO) tourneys, the format which continues to gain followers. The singular difference is that due to different player populations in each state, the guaranteed prize pools differ from one state to the next.
While all the events are no-limit hold'em, the entry fees cover a wide range. The New Years Day tourney (Event #4) features a a special "$20.22" entry, while the Mega PKO the following day offers a pricier $1,060 buy-in. The other four events in each state's series have buy-ins ranging from $55 to $320.
Here's the basic New Year Knockout Weekend schedule, with the guarantees for each state specially noted. For the lower-priced events, all three states' events have the same prize pool guarantee. For the $20 and $1,060 events (#1 and #4), New Jersey players will battle over a higher guaranteed prize pool. All times as shown are ET, meaning players in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula have to self-adjust an hour to take part.
