Kornuth pits a second major tournament win on his 2021 resume
The $10,000 buy-in Wynn Millions caught the attention of the poker world earlier this month, and rightfully so. Andrew Moreno’s victory in that event netted a $1,460,106 winner’s prize (after a three-way deal), and came in a tournament that saw a $10 million guarantee balloon to $12,483,200.
The Wynn Millions raised the bar for what’s possible in a $10k live tournament outside of the World Series of Poker. While that massive tournament wrapped up July 3, the big-money tournaments at Wynn/Encore aren’t done for the summer.
One of poker’s top-tier tournament players added a six-figure score to his resume at the Wynn Summer Classic on Saturday. Chance Kornuth took down the Wynn Summer Classic $3,500 NLH $1 Million Guaranteed event, adding a $353,891 payday to his career earnings.
Those earnings now stand at over $8.4 million won in live poker tournaments by Kornuth over the course of his career. Kornuth topped a field of 530 entries at the Wynn Summer Classic $3,500 NLH event.
That attendance pushed the final prize pool to $1,711,900, well past the $1 million guaranteed. The tournament came as another success in the Wynn Summer Classic series, which wraps up this week at Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas.
Big year in 2021 for Kornuth
Kornuth’s 2021 began on a down note, with the pro opting out of his Galfond Challenge match against Phil Galfond after falling behind to the tune of $680,000. A return to live felt proved to be the remedy, however, who’s now posted a pair of major live wins this year.
The first came at the MSPT Venetian $1,600 Main Event, which Kornuth won for $412,086 in June. Kornuth almost didn’t even register for that tournament, as his duties as a new father and as the head of Chip Leader Coaching almost led to forgetting to register for the tournament.
Four weeks later, Kornuth added a second six-figure cash to his list of 2021 poker accomplishments. The Wynn Summer Classic $3,500 NLH event played out as one of five events on the Wynn Summer Classic series schedule with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million or more.
One last tournament remains on the Wynn Summer Classic schedule. The $500 NLH event sees the final two Day flights open for registration today at Wynn/Encore. The $500,000 guaranteed tournament plays to a winner on Tuesday.
