We're approaching the final event in PokerGO's Stairway to Millions series, with Event #6: $25,500. The next two events (a $50k and a $100k) will round things off and bring the experiment to a close.
The series's gimmick is that (a) each tournament has roughly double the buy in of the previous tournament and (b) every time a player cashes, part of their win comes in the form of a ticket to the following event.
This makes for a fun opportunity. Players rolled for a $1k like Event #1, had a chance to run it up to play in a $100k. In practice, this hope ended with Event #4.
So far the series has seen several surprising stories with Chance Kornuth taking back to back wins in Events #2 and #3. Event #5 saw a surprise win for Michael Wang. And the
Jake Schindler wins another one
Jake Schindler won this event, earning $287,500 ($51,000 of which comes as a ticket to Event #7). To get there he had to beat a field of players that included the seven players who cashed in Event #5 and a string of big names.
Among the 25 entries who bought in were players like Erik Seidel, Stephen Chidwick, Jeremy Ausmus, Cary Katz, and Punnat Punsri.
At the end of Day 1 when the money bubble broke, Schindler had amassed a chip lead with four players left.
He had a tough final four to play that included Nick Petrangelo and Sean Winter. It was Petrangelo who held on long enough to take Schindler on heads up.
It was a pretty smooth path for Schindler. The cards ran his way and with the experience that comes from getting to a $28 million Hendon Mob page, it made for a pretty easy game.
“I think I made one mistake, with ace-ten," Schindler said in his post-game interview. "But other than that I think the hands were pretty straightforward. The cards played themselves for the most part. I didn’t have too many tough decisions.”
Mind you, when you're at the top of the game like Schindler, a "tough decision" means something quite different.
Petrangelo won $175,000 for his second place finish.
