Nick Petrangelo won the Stairway to Millions Event #8. This came the day after he won Event #7, and at the end of a nine-day stint of poker in which he cashed four times in the series overall.
He won $1,026,000 for his first-place finish in Event #8. This brings his total cashes for the Stairway to Millions to $1,803,840 and his Hendon Mob total to just over $27 million.
Chance Kornuth also managed back-to-back wins on the Stairway. He did so at the much lower stakes and in the much larger player pools of Event #2 and Event #3.
“Every time you win, it feels great," Petrangelo said in response to the usual post-win questions. "I was looking forward to this series, and I’m looking forward to playing a lot live in general this year. It never gets old. It’s awesome. I’m really happy and fortunate that I’m running well.”
Event #8 had a $100,000 buy-in, paid in Petrangelo's case out of his prize money from winning Event #7. With rebuys, there were 19 buy-ins total in the pot, making for a total prize pool of $1.9 million.
Nick Petrangelo wins again
Petrangelo had some good luck in both this and the previous event, a fact which he claims sharpened his already considerable skills.
He explained, “Confidence in poker is a huge thing. It’s a real thing because oftentimes you can get a little gun-shy when you’re running bad — if you’re running big bluffs and everyone always has the nuts — or vice versa if you’re making calls and you’re just running into it all the time. When everything is working out, things are going well, and you’re making big hands and the bluffs are getting through, it just helps you play better. It’s as simple as that.”
That confidence came in handy as he waded through a field that included Sam Soverel, Jason Koon, Jake Schindler, Stephen Chidwick, and Ali Imsirovic, 2021's PokerGO Tour POY.
The final match-up saw Petrangelo taking on David Peters, who took home $570,000 for second place.
"Nick Petrangelo crushed the inaugural Stairway to Millions and closed it out by defeating [David Peters] heads-up in the $100k! Petrangelo took home nearly $1.8 million for four days of work and is now the early 2022 PokerGO Tour leader!"
Petrangelo's win cements his lead in the PokerGO Tour standings with 845 points. Michael Wang, in second place, has 354 points.
