New Jersey online series and Florida live event marks the resumption of the WPT Main Tour in the states
COVID-19 considerations have led to the postponement of the WPT Main Tour in the U.S. since March. Players in the states, however, don't have to wait much longer for the return of one of the world's biggest poker tours.
The World Poker Tour has announced a pair of Main Tour events for the U.S., set to run in December and January. One of these events takes place online, as the biggest New Jersey-only series to ever play out on the partypoker US Network.
The other marks the return to live action for the WPT, with the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood hosting its traditional January WPT event.
The following preview takes a look at what U.S. players can look forward to when the WPT Main Tour returns to American shores:
WPT Online Poker Open (hosted on partypoker US Network)
The WPT and partypoker have teamed up for several online festivals on the partypoker US Network in 2020. The upcoming WPT Online Poker Open, however, marks the first time for an official WPT Main Tour event to run on the New Jersey regulated online poker network.
The WPT Online Poker Open runs Dec. 27-29, with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool for the Main Event. The festival runs on the partypoker US Network, which includes New Jersey sites partypoker NJ, BetMGM, and Borgata Poker.
Partypoker US Network sites can be accessed from anywhere in New Jersey. You don't have to be a New Jersey resident to play, but you must be located within New Jersey borders while you play.
"partypoker US Network welcomes the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup back to New Jersey for the WPT Online Poker Open. This event promises the opportunity for players of all bankrolls to compete for the most coveted prize in poker,” Director of Poker for partypoker US Network Ray Stefanelli said in a press release. "Come December, we look forward to welcoming players from across the US to New Jersey for a chance to compete for their share of the $1 million guarantee."
Lucky Hearts Poker Open (hosted by Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood)
The Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood announced that its annual Lucky Hearts Poker Open will run on schedule in 2021. The series takes place at the Hollywood, Florida venue on Jan. 14-26.
That series culminates in another WPT Main Tour feature event. The $3,500 World Poker Tour LHPO Main Event runs Jan. 22-26, with the standard $1 million guaranteed on the line.
The WPT LHPO Main Event marks the first time the WPT has run a major live event in the U.S. since March when COVID-19 forced the shutdown of retail casinos nationwide.
