The PokerGO Tour has partnered with Champions Club Texas to bring the first-ever PGTTexasPokerOpen to Houston this spring. From April 24th to May 5th, Champions Club will play host to an action-packed slate of events, including the $2,000,000 GTD Main Event and seven other PGT-qualifying High Roller events.
The Main Event features a $3,300 buy-in and kicks off on Wednesday, April 24th, with the first of eight starting flights. Players that finish in the money in the Main Event, or any of the High Roller events, will receive PGT leaderboard points for their efforts.
The seven High Roller tournaments all fall within a buy-in range of $5,300 to $10,300 and feature five No-Limit Hold'em events and two Pot-Limit Omaha events. As an added bonus, there are plans to live stream events from the PGT Texas Poker Open on both PokerGO and its YouTube channel, including streamed coverage of every single day of the Main Event.
The PGT isn't the only tournament provider to push into Texas in recent months. Back in January, the MoneymakerTour took its offerings to the Lone Star State for the first time. Despite weather-related issues, the stop proved a huge success.
PokerGO's Director of Live Events and Content, TimDuckworth, told PokerOrg, "It's no secret that poker in Texas is flourishing, both for tournaments and cash games, and we’ve also seen just how big of an appetite players in the region have for bigger stakes."
Duckworth continued, saying, "PokerGO has a tremendous partnership with Champions Club Texas that began in 2021, and it’s the perfect venue for this type of series. Champions Club is home to an outstanding poker room and hotel, there’s a loyal community of players, and the venue has livestreaming built in. In a way, it’s Texas’ version of the PokerGO Studio."
Finding the right partners
When asked about future events outside of the PokerGO Studio, Duckworth told PokerOrg that the PGT has always had aspirations to expand beyond their own studio. The key to the equation comes in the partnerships. "We just have to find the right partners to work with - the right fit that allows us to collectively create a win for the PGT, a win for the venue, a win for players, and a win for viewers. Currently, we have some irons in the fire for future events and series outside of the PokerGO Studio, but we’re also heavily focused right now on delivering the best Texas Poker Open we can."
