Foxen adds to his legacy with a victory in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em PokerGO Cup opener
It comes as no surprise at this point when Alex Foxen runs deep in any poker tournament. The 30-year-old Canadian pro holds all kinds of records in the Global Poker Index Rankings, including the longest run atop the rankings in GPI history, and status as the only two-time GPI Player of the Year.
With high-stakes live tournaments back in action in the U.S., Foxen has gone right back to work with an impressive list of 2021 accomplishments. Coming into this week’s PokerGO Cup, Foxen put together 11 cashes on the PokerGO Tour, the industry standard-bearer for high roller tournaments.
A victory on the PokerGO Tour had eluded Foxen coming into the PokerGO Cup, but that changed on Wednesday night. Foxen took the win in PokerGO Cup Event #1: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em, adding a $178,200 payday to his resume.
That resume now includes more than $18 million in career live tournament earnings and 14 wins in tournaments recorded on the Hendon Mob database website. Foxen moved into the No. 9 spot on the 2021 PokerGO Tour Leaderboard with the win in PokerGO Cup Event #1.
Foxen outdueled Sean Perry (2nd - $132,000) in heads-up play to clinch the win.

One tournament down, seven to go at the 2021 PokerGO Cup
Event #1: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em kicked off a slate of eight events on tap for the 2021 PokerGO Cup. The series opener drew 66 entries, with the final prize pool ending up at $660,000.
Perry retained his spot at No. 2 on the 2021 PokerGO Tour Leaderboard standings after the runner-up finish. Americas Cardroom Team Pro Vanessa Kade (7th - $33,000) finished just short of making the six-handed final table, exiting the tournament on Wednesday.
Thursday’s action resumed with a table full of top-tier competitors in contention for the first PokerGO Cup title of 2021. The PokerGO Cup is a new addition to the high-stakes tournament series under the PokerGO banner.
Along with another new addition, the PokerGO Heads-Up Championship, the PokerGO Tour includes five “majors” for 2021. The PokerGO Cup continues through July 14.
The top finisher on the series leaderboard will take home the PokerGO Cup, along with a $50,000 championship prize. With the first of eight tournaments completed, Foxen emerged as the early leader in the PokerGO Cup chase.
“Honestly, I feel like I have taken a bit more time off poker recently than I have in the past, especially the last three or four years, so in my mind I feel like I have slowed down a little bit,” Foxen told PokerGO in the aftermath of Event #1. “Being in Las Vegas, there’s so many good tournaments out here. Everything is right in your backyard so it makes it really easy to play as much as you can.
“I definitely have intentions of starting a family eventually and know that will take me away from the game a bit, so I’m trying to do everything I can with the time with no restrictions left.”
