Event #17 of the 2021 WSOP is the $1,500 MILLIONAIRE MAKER No-Limit Hold’em tournament. As the name suggests, this event guaranteed a $1,000,000 prize to the winner. The tournament had two starting flights on October 8 and October 9, with the remaining players from those two flights combining for Day 2 on October 10 before eventually playing down to a winner on Day 5 on October 13.
In previous years, this event has played out something like a mid-stakes Main Event (with the Colossus standing in as a sort of low-stakes main event). So the Milly’s turnout is a good indicator of the series health at large.
The Millionaire Maker didn’t draw as many players as the WSOP organizers may have hoped. This tourney drew 5,330 entries piling up a prize pool of $3,428,280. The lowish turnout created a somewhat lopsided payout structure, with $1 million for first, $500,125 for second, and a slow fade through to the min-cash of $2,400.
John Gorsuch earned $1,344,930 and his first WSOP bracelet for winning the MILLIONAIRE MAKER in 2019. The massively popular event drew 8,809 total entries to create a huge prize pool of $11,892,150.
