StormX, a cryptocurrency cashback company is putting on a poker tournament in the PokerGO studio in March. The two companies partnered up a couple of weeks ago and have put together the basics of the tourney as of today.

StormX is PokerGO's first cryptocurrency partner. The company's main product is a cashback plug-in for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The plug-in awards cashback in cryptocurrencies, for any qualifying purchases made on that browser.

When StormX announced its partnership with PokerGO two weeks ago, the two companies promised a star-studded invitational event. The event was to be the cherry on top of all the usual marketing matter these partnerships create.

That invitational event is coming to fruition post-haste though. You won't have to wait long, as the tourney is scheduled for March 3, 2022.

The rules of engagement

The game will be no limit hold'em, the buy-in: $5,000. Players will be allowed a single $5,000 rebuy each. Right now, the invitation list is growing with some impressive names and faces making a showing.

The expectation is for a prize pool in the area of $500,000. At the time of writing, StormX and PokerGO are well on their way to hitting that goal. There are 81 confirmed entrants confirmed and $405,000 in the pot before rebuys.

If you want in yourself, you can contact StormX to make your case. You just need to pop an email over to the marketing address on their site.

Simon Yu, the CEO and Co-Founder of StormX, said in a recent press release he is "excited to host the first of many events that bring together a wide range of entrepreneurs, investors, poker pros, and celebrities to create an enjoyable event that will be streamed globally.”

The guest list

If one were to wangle a seat in the event then, on March 3, one would be sitting down to play with a pretty illustrious (and relatively soft) crowd.

The majority of the field draws from finance. Some are traditional investors like Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo and ex-Victoria's Secret model Amber Arbucci. Others are figures from the world of crypto made up of various founders, creators, and CEOs of companies like Stably, Layer Zero, and DeFi Technologies.

They will be joined by celebrities from the world of NASCAR (Landon Cassill) and the NBA (Paul Pierce and Michael Carter-Williams).

Among the poker players that have their seats already booked are Nick Shulman, Maria Ho, Matt Berkey, David Williams, and Tom Dwan. The people running the show seem to have been careful not to overcrowd the field with sharks.

StormX's partnership with PokerGO has several elements, including content production and the usual on-screen and tabletop ads during PokerGO broadcasts. But the odds are events like this — which will be live-streamed on Youtube as well as PokerGO — will provide far more coverage for StormX than the other elements in the deal.
