Mateos breaks through in his fifth Super MILLION$ final table appearance

Adrian Mateos’ consistency paid off in this week’s edition of the GGPoker Super MILLION$ High Roller. Mateos has registered for all 42 runs of the weekly $10,300 buy-in tournament, posting five final table appearances and 12 cashes.

Final table run No. 5 proved to be the breakthrough for Mateos, who took down Episode 42 of the Super MILLION$ for a $428,624 payday.

Mateos can now add “Super MILLION$ champion” to a poker resume that stands as one of the world’s best. The other accomplishments on that fact sheet include more than $21 million in live tournament earnings, three WSOP bracelets, and status as Spain’s all-time tournament money leader.

Mateos denied Aliaksei Boika (2nd - $330,514) of his first Super MILLION$ win. This week’s edition of the tournament drew 212 entries, wrapping up Tuesday at GGPoker.

All-star final table lineup ends in a win for Mateos

Mateos came into Tuesday’s final table as the chip leader and tournament favorite to win, according to PokerShares betting lines. The Spanish poker superstar still faced a tough road to victory, however, and Super MILLION$ Episode 42 boasted the typical lineup of elite talent among the final nine.

Last week’s champion Yuri Dzivielevski (9th - $53,578) was first to bow out at the final table, coming up a few spots short of going back-to-back with Super MILLION$ wins. The path to a championship didn’t get any easier from there for Mateos, as fellow top-30 all-time tournament money winner Sam Greenwood (8th - $69,842) was also among the final nine.

Other top finishers included ‘RRomashka’ (7th - $90,107), Joao Vieira (6th - $116,854), and David Coleman (5th - $151,541).

High-stakes cash game regular and two-time WPT champion Art Papazyan (4th - $196,525) made his deepest-ever run in the Super MILLION$, placing fourth in a rare appearance in the GGPoker High Roller tournament.

Super MILLION$ regular ‘Nator’ (3rd - $254,861) went out in third, setting up the heads-up duel for the title between Mateos and Boika.
