Daniel Negreanu entered the final table of the WSOP Online $10,000 GGMillion$ Pot-Limit Omaha bracelet event with the second-largest stack in play and only six players separating him from a ninth piece of jewelry.
Within about twenty minutes, he was the first player eliminated.
After picking up a couple early pots – including one against chip leader Andreas Freund – Negreanu took command of the table and looked to be settling in for a steady march to the win.
And then disaster struck.
Negreanu swings for the fences
Freund opened to pot from under-the-gun with just shy of 100 big blinds in his stack and Negreanu defended from the big blind with only a handful more. The 
flop went check-check and the 
came in on the turn.
Negreanu came out swinging with a pot-sized wager and Freund responded with a pot-sized raise. Negreanu re-potted and the rest of the chips went in, creating a pot worth nearly 200 big blinds.

Freund had one of Negreanu's flush draws dominated, leaving the Canadian with only a 17.5% chance to scoop the pot. The river 
improved both players to a flush, but it was Freund who had the best of it.
Negreanu was left with a little more than six big blinds after the clash and nearly tripled his stack in the next hand.
On a 
board, he was a coin flip to stay alive with 
against an opponent's 
, but the river 
put an end to his run.
The entirety of the final table lasted just over an hour – and Negreanu's elimination was directly responsible for the brevity as it enabled Freund to run rampant over the rest of the field.
When he reached heads-up play against Vito Jhonny Recchimurzo, however, the tables turned. The Venezuelan managed to double through his opponent multiple times to level the stacks.
Despite the setback, the Austrian prevailed to notch his first WSOP bracelet and the $428,456 first-place prize.

'I'm playing for first'
In the aftermath, Negreanu took to social media to explain his thought process.
"I'm playing for first and nothing else," he clarified before going through each decision point in the hand.
Negreanu honed in on the turn card as the true source of the hand's insanity, describing it as "the sickest turn card."
In his opinion, it was the only card in the deck that could have led to the carnage.
Negreanu intended on live-streaming his gameplay for the final table, but technical difficulties with his internet connection forced him to abandon the idea.

After his tough beat in the PLO event, Negreanu managed to get his livestream operational for Day 1B of the $10K GGMillion$ High Roller, but was one of the first players eliminated.
