Bring out the big guns if you didn’t get the cards you wanted and are trying to bluff
One of the most difficult plays in a game of Texas Hold’em is to pull off a successful triple barrel. This is the play in which you take the hand all the way to the river by pulling out a bluff after making bets in the flop and the turn, but with a poor hand. This is a strategy that can bring several benefits to the player; however, it is not something that you will see among rookie players. Before daring to try this play during a hand of poker, you need to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons.
Before taking a step in raising on each street with a weak hand, make sure that you understand firmly the two concepts that go before: <a href=”https://www.poker.org/understanding-the-continuation-bet-in-texas-holdem/”>continuation bets</a> and <a href=”https://www.poker.org/double-barreling-in-texas-holdem/”>double barrels</a>. There are plenty of situations in which this strategy can be used, but ideally, only in some hands will it be truly worth it. This can make the difference between a good and bad poker player.
The first and most obvious reason is to pull your opponent off their hand by scaring them away. In this play, the only way to win is to make a bet and hope for the opponent to fold. After betting on all streets, there is nothing left to do that hope for the best. You need to make sure, before using this strategy, that there is a possibility for the hand not to end well and you get called on your bluff.
If the opponent has called your flop and turn bluff bets, there is a good chance that he will do so on the river, as well. It is less probable that a player folds during the river; much less than what the odds are of him folding during the turn or flop. Using this strategy comes with another hidden benefit: learning more about your opponents and skills to respond to your bets. It could happen that he is bluffing, too, so the next hands should be approached considering that before bets are made.
